Energy efficient loft ladders…
When choosing a retrofit loft ladder it is important to consider thermal insulation and energy efficiency. Premier Loft Ladders offer a range of highly insulated products products that are certified with Class 4 air permeability ratings (certified by IFT Rosenheim according to DIN EN 12207/12114), which is a measure of how well the loft ladder and hatch box assembly prevent air leakage. Class 4 certified loft ladders include the Supreme (including standard, electric and F30 fire resistance versions), Ecco, MiniLine (including F30, F30 Plus and F60 fire resistance versions), Designo, Quadro, Cadet 3, and the ProfiLine (including F30, F30 Plus and F60 fire resistance versions).
Enhanced insulation with WDL insulation and sealing tape…
The Columbus WDL insulation and sealing tape is a patented solution to ensure an airtight connection between the loft ladder hatch box and the building, therefore improving energy efficiency and reducing heating costs. The WDL tape is pre-assembled to the Designo Passivhaus and Supreme Passivhaus ladders, but can be ordered as an optional extra on other aluminium concertina stairs and wooden loft ladders.
Repairing an existing loft ladder…
One of the most common components to fail on an old loft ladder is the counter-balance spring mechanism, which stops the hatch and ladder swinging open. As you might expect, these moving parts take a lot of wear and tear. As such Premier Loft ladders offer a spring hardware pack that can be fitted to most hatches longer than 750mm and weighing no more than 20kg.
Loft ladders for a truss roof
Truss roof rafters and ceiling joists are common in many UK homes. Joists are typically spaced either 400 mm, 450 mm or 600 mm apart and 50 mm wide. As a result, many off-the-shelf loft ladders are not suitable. Therefore, made-to-measure loft ladders and concertina space saving loft ladders offer the best solution.
Read our application solution guide to learn more about truss roof loft ladders and to view suggested products, which even includes electric loft ladders.
Insulated loft ladders – information guide and data sheet
An uninsulated home loses a large amount of its heat through the roof. Insulating your loft/attic and fitting an insulated loft hatch and ladder could therefore save you hundreds of pounds in energy costs. There are three important factors to consider when choosing an insulated loft hatch and ladder:
- The amount of thermal insulation provided by the loft hatch
- Air permeability through the loft hatch box
- Air permeability around the outside of the hatch box
Make sure you know exactly what to look for when choosing your new insulated loft ladder. Read our complete guide and download a copy of your insulated loft ladders data sheet.
