Electric loft ladders for specialist applications
Electrically operated loft ladders are available for a range of special applications. You can order both the Supreme Electric and Isotec with either a 30, 60 or 90 minute resistance. Furthermore, both offer heavy-duty performance and so suitable for commercial projects. Fire rated electric ladders are available with an insulated steel hatch only.
Our flat roof access hatch can also be ordered with a fully automatic loft ladder. Again, this is based upon the Supreme Electric. The upper hatch can also be electrically operated, making access to a roof-top garden or terrace quick and easy.

Supreme manual loft ladder offers lightweight operation
Easy-to-operate manual loft ladder
The manually operated Supreme offers a great alternative to an electric loft ladder. It features a clever counter-balance spring mechanism. As a result, it can be operated with minimal effort. Furthermore, it still offers heavy duty performance with large treads for comfort and safety.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an electric loft ladder?
Electric loft ladders are motorised ladders that provide access to a loft/attic via the press of a button. They are commonly operated by a wall-mounted switch or an infrared remote control. They remove all physical effort, therefore offer the easiest way to get into your loft.
Is it right for me?
An electric loft ladder is ideal for those prioritising effortless access to their attic. Therefore, it is a good option for people with mobility issues or wanting to future-proof their homes. Also, it is great for those who want to frequently access their loft, as illustrated in one of our real-life case studies (click here to learn more).
Furthermore, automated loft ladders are an excellent choice for properties with high ceilings, where manual loft ladders can become more difficult to use.
What happens if I have a power cut?
Many electric loft ladders will not operate if the supply of power is disrupted. However, some products will feature battery back-up power supplies. Therefore, they can continue to be operated over a number of cycles without a mains power supply.
Also, the best ladders on the market will include a manual override, such as the Supreme Electric. As a result, the ladder can still be safely operated in an emergency.
Why are electric loft ladders more expensive?
Electric loft ladders are more expensive than their manually operated equivalent because of the high cost of the electrical components. Also, much more work goes into the production, assembly and testing of it. Furthermore, electric ladders are made in small quantities, often made-to-order.
Are electric loft ladders safe to use?
Electric loft ladders remove the need to manually stretch and extend or retract the ladder. As such, they reduce the risk of physical injury to the person using it.
In addition, the best electric ladders have a safety and limit stop sensor. This automatically switches off the motor if there is an obstruction or when the ladder reaches the floor. This important feature helps to prevent injury, especially to children or pets that might run beneath the ladder when it is being operated.
However, as with all ladders, they should not be used by children. Also, the person operating the ladder must maintain line-of-sight with the ladder when it is being extended or retracted.
Can an electric loft ladder be used in a home automation system?
It is possible to integrate some electrically operated loft ladders into smart homes. However, there are several important considerations:
- The ladder should only ever be operated when there is a direct line of sight. Therefore, a home automation system should not be used to operate the ladder remotely.
- Not all electric ladders will facilitate allowing it to be wired into a smart home.
- Finally, alterations made when wiring the ladder to a home automation system could invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.
