Why choose a wooden loft ladder with flat roof access hatch?

Access to a flat roof is becoming more important, whether that be for maintaining HVAC equipment, accessing a roof-top garden or as a secondary means of escape.

A wooden loft ladder pre-assembled within a flat roof access hatch provides a convenient and cost-effective solution.  The ladder stows away out of sight when not needed, yet can be conveniently accessed when required.

Improved performance

The wooden loft ladder and flat roof hatch is now based upon the high-performance ‘Designo‘ loft ladder. It features improved thermal insulation compared to the previous model.  Furthermore, it benefits from the Designo’s 6-point locking mechanism, which provides a superb airtight seal all the way around the hatch.

However, the enhancements don’t stop there! The clever design of the wooden loft ladder means that it has a load rating of 180kg per tread (compared to 150kg per tread for a typical loft ladder). As a result, it enables heavier equipment to be passed through to the roof, and gives greater piece-of-mind.

Standard sizes or made-to-measure

Like the majority of our products, the wooden loft ladder with flat roof hatch is available in both standard sizes, or for a modest increase in price it can be made-to-measure. It is suitable for ceiling heights between 2.3m and 2.8m (or 3.3m when made-to-measure).

As standard, the hatch box depth is 750mm.  This should be more than sufficient for most projects, and allow for the necessary roof-top clearance (150mm).  However, the hatch box can be manufactured for depths of up to 1.25m.

In addition, the wooden loft ladder and flat roof hatch can be customised with a range of accessories and further enhancements. These include security lock on either the lower or upper hatch, additional handrails, upper-level guardrails and improved thermal insulation in the upper hatch. We recommend that you contact us to discuss special requirements.

Attention to detail…

As the wooden ladder will likely be exposed to rain, the treads are fitted with plastic caps (pictured here). These serve two purposes; first they offer greater durability and protection from the elements, and second they provide higher surface friction to minimise risk of slipping (particularly when raining).

Also worth noting is the sleek finish on the lower hatch, with concealed hinges and discrete (recessed) latch. This gives a high-quality finish, particularly when installed flush with the plaster. Details such as these help to set this wooden loft ladder and flat roof access hatch apart from other products.
